Business Guide to Kaufman Things To Do

This Navy Veteran from Terrell is Calling All Junkies – And We Recommend the French Kiss!

Written by Cilla Wichmann

Don’t worry, ‘French Kiss’ is just the name of a delicious beverage whipped up by John Patterson, owner of Java Junkies Coffee Company in Terrell. This video was produced by Garrett and Hannah, students at Poetry Community Christian School in Kaufman County. They are regulars at Java Junkies, so when they were picking topics for their video project, it was an easy choice. We hope you enjoy their first project with LookUp Kaufman, and we look forward to many more with these talented teens!

In the town of Terrell, Texas, Garrett LaFleur and Hannah Seigler have found a coffee shop that perfectly blends edgy and cozy in the downtown square. Java Junkies Coffee is derived from world wide teas to its world sized hospitality it serves with its coffee. John Patterson, the owner, served in the U.S Navy, and is now a retired Navy Veteran. With all of his experiences in life, Patterson has made it his goal to spread more love and joy through his little coffee shop.

“I don’t make pretty designs, mainly because I don’t know how, the only thing that matters is that it tastes good,” is what Patterson told Hannah and Garrett as they were ordering drinks. They both saw how genuine and down to earth, even though his style is a bit edgy, Patterson truly was. Even the merchandise for his company expresses Patterson’s character well.

Even though Patterson’s vision for the company was solely to, “make some money,” the future of the business has reached far beyond that. Because he loves what he does for a living, Patterson has set a goal to grant everyone with special, good quality, unique coffee, which is why he now ships hundreds of different blends internationally.

“Our biggest project… would be our new website, JavaJunkiesCoffee.com.  On there, you can find a selection of over 450 different coffees and teas. We have a selection of somewhere around 150 loose leaf teas that come from around the world. What gets me most excited is the growth of the company and the development of downtown Terrell. As we grow we hope that also downtown terrell will also grow.”

However, if you make it to their storefront and meet John, be sure to tell him “Hello” from us at LookUp and try one of his original concoctions. Recommendations from Hannah and Garrett, the Iced French Kiss, and the Milky Way, which Garrett claims tastes better than the candy bar.  Who knows, maybe you’ll become a Java Junkie with us.
