JSBC Teaching Kids to Fight for Their Life – In the Ring and Out

The video above was shot by Jeffrey Gator Moore, a student producer in our program. This is his second production, and which he shot on an iPhone.

WWhat happens to a kid when life punches him in the gut? When every time he gets up, he’s knocked down again? For a lot of kids what happens is anger, depression, anxiety, obesity, substance abuse, self-image issues, and spiritual emptiness.

Jeremy Melton and Drew Peterson are modern day warriors, who began with nothing more than a dream to reach the youth of Kaufman County. Through Jefferson Street Boxing Club what they’ve created is a safe and healthy alternative to running the streets. In a world where we’re taught that fighting is not the answer, Jefferson teaches what it means to be a fighter in life; physically, mentally and spiritually. The “Club Rules” include standards like responsibility, self-discipline, accountability, honor, integrity, and respect. In addition to these great standards, the kids of JSBC are encouraged to prioritize their studies, and to find good spiritual homes.

Not only a refuge for the kids of Kaufman County, JSBC is also a place for physical therapy and home to many people overcoming physical, mental, and spiritual trauma. In addition, through “Project Deborah” and self-defense classes for women, JSBC emphasizes the importance of being a courageous woman in today’s world.

Jefferson Street Boxing Club is so much more than just a sports center. It’s an outreach for the entire community. And it’s ministries like this that make Kaufman County such a grounded and fulfilling place to call home.
